Off-spinner Aliss Al Islam has earned his maiden One Day International call-up, while pacer Nahid Rana has been left out as Bangladesh announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming tri-series against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe in the UAE.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced the squad on Saturday, with Litton Das named captain and Towhid Hridoy his deputy.
Nahid remains in rehabilitation after suffering a foot injury during the Zimbabwe series. The injury also ruled him out of Bangladesh’s historic Test series against Australia, and the BCB have opted against risking the pacer before he makes a full recovery.
Hasan Mahmud, meanwhile, returns to the 50-over side after nearly a year. His last ODI appearance came against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi on 14 October last year.
Mustafizur Rahman, who suffered an injury after playing the opening match against Zimbabwe, has returned to the squad. Mohammad Saifuddin, who replaced Mustafizur for the remaining two matches of that series, has been left out after sustaining an injury.
The left-armer will lead the pace attack alongside Hasan and Shoriful Islam.
Aliss has made a swift rise to the ODI squad, earning his first call-up within a week of making his international T20 debut. The 29-year-old made that debut against Sri Lanka in the third-place match at the recently concluded Asian Games.
Known for his controlled off-spin in the shorter format, Aliss now has an opportunity to make his mark in 50-over cricket.
Litton will lead Bangladesh after missing the final two matches of the Zimbabwe series through injury, having played in the opening game.
Tigers will begin their tri-series campaign against Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi on 17 October. They will face Afghanistan in Sharjah on 21 October before the final on 23 October.
Bangladesh squad: Litton Das (captain), Towhid Hridoy (vice-captain), Tanzid Hasan, Saif Hassan, Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain, Mosaddek Hossain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nurul Hasan, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud, Shoriful Islam and Aliss Al Islam.
