Bangladeshi umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Saikat found himself at the centre of controversy during the third ODI between India and West Indies on Saturday in New Chandigarh after a disputed third-umpire decision involving Sherfane Rutherford.

The incident occurred in the 30th over of the West Indies innings when Rutherford attempted a cut shot off Naman Dhir. On-field umpire gave him out caught behind and the batter immediately reviewed the decision. Replays showed a spike on UltraEdge as the ball passed the bat, and Sharfuddoula upheld the original decision.

However, today questions were raised as the replay also appeared to show the bat brushing the pad at the same moment. Commentator Ian Bishop noted Rutherford's frustration and said the batter believed the sound had come from bat hitting pad rather than ball hitting bat. Social media users and several analysts also criticised the decision.

Despite the controversy, West Indies chased down 352 with five wickets in hand to avoid a series whitewash, although India still won the three-match series 2-1.
