Abahani Limited bounced back from a stuttering start to the domestic season with a commanding 5-1 victory over Dhaka Wanderers in the Bangladesh Football League at the Chandpur District Stadium.
Having stumbled in their opening matches of both the league and the Federation Cup, Maruful Haque’s side quickly found their rhythm to secure their first win of the campaign. They opened the scoring after just four minutes when Anthony Okachi found the net following a pass from Pakistani forward Moin Ahmed. Two minutes later, Moin doubled the advantage himself.
Wanderers briefly cut the deficit in the 14th minute through Jahid Hossain, but the pressure from the Sky Blues continued. Former Nigerian World Cup player Micheal Babatunde converted a penalty in the 34th minute to restore the two-goal cushion. After the break, Okachi struck his second goal in the 75th minute before Al Amin completed the rout in the second minute of stoppage time.
Elsewhere, a six-goal thriller at the Bashundhara Kings Arena ended in a 3-3 draw between Fortis FC and City Club. Onyekachi Okafor scored a hat-trick for City Club against his former employers. Fortis fell two goals behind early on but fought back to level the match through Mohammad Ibrahim and Essa Jallow.
Facing the threat of a loss late in the game, the hosts salvaged a point thanks to a brilliant equaliser from Noriki Akada.
In Gopalganj, Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society played out a 2-2 draw with Arambagh Krira Sangha. Rayies Suraj gave Arambagh the lead from the penalty spot in the 13th minute, but Sene Ibrahima equalised for Rahmatganj in the 25th minute. Ibrahima scored again after the break to put the old Dhaka club ahead, only for Mohammad Rocky to strike back and secure a point for Arambagh.
Following the second round of fixtures, Bangladesh Police FC sit at the top of the league table with six points. Abahani, Fortis, and City Club follow closely with four points each.
