Bangladesh experienced a disappointing day at the Asian Games, suffering a narrow 3-2 defeat to Chinese Taipei in women's hockey and crashing out of all six archery team events on Sunday.
Narrow defeat in hockey
The Bangladesh women's hockey team failed to build on their previous draw, ending their Pool A campaign with a tight 3-2 defeat against Chinese Taipei at the Kawasaki Juko Stadium.
Chinese Taipei took the lead in the sixth minute through Huang Yu-ting. Bangladesh fought back in the second quarter, with Kona Akter scoring an equaliser in the 19th minute. Five minutes later, Kona struck again to give Bangladesh a 2-1 lead at half-time.
The defeat leaves Bangladesh at the bottom of the table with one point from five matches. In their debut Asian Games campaign, they lost to China (13-0), Malaysia (3-1), and South Korea (8-0), before securing a 3-3 draw against Kazakhstan. China topped the pool with a perfect 15 points.
Archery team exit
In the men's compound team event, Bangladesh started strongly against Iran, winning the first set 59-57. After a 58-58 tie in the second set, Iran took the third 59-56. Bangladesh won the fourth set 59-58, levelling the total score at 232-232. The shoot-off ended in a 30-30 tie, but Iran advanced to the next round as they hit the inner-10 ring (X) three times compared to Bangladesh's two.
The women's compound team lost 229-228 to Kazakhstan. The match began with a 55-55 draw in the first set, followed by a narrow 57-56 win for Kazakhstan in the second. Bangladesh bounced back to win the third set 59-57, but lost the final set 60-58 to exit at the pre-quarterfinal stage.
In the recurve mixed team event, Abdur Rahman Alif and Monira Akter beat Thailand 6-0 to reach the pre-quarterfinals, losing 5-1 to hosts Japan. The compound mixed team also lost in the pre-quarterfinals, falling 158-154 to Iran.
The men's recurve team were eliminated by Iran. Meanwhile, the women's recurve team defeated Japan 5-4 in sets to reach the quarterfinals, but their run ended with a 5-3 loss to Indonesia.
Despite the team exits, four Bangladeshi archers remain in the individual events. In the men's compound round of 32 on Monday, Himu Bachhar will face Kazakhstan's Andrey Tyutyun, while Nawaz Ahmed Rakib will shoot against Iran's Milad Rashidi. In the women's compound, Kulsum Akter Moni takes on Indonesia's Nina Bonita Pereira, and Bonna Akter faces Iran's Gisa Bybordy.
Surfing struggles
