State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque said on Sunday that they would discuss the future of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) with Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).

BCB president Tamim Iqbal recently said the board was unwilling to stage the country’s lone franchise-based T20 tournament until concerns over its credibility were resolved. While the franchises welcomed the decision, cricketers voiced concerns about losing one of their major sources of income. The BCB later raised domestic match fees to provide players with greater financial security.

But Aminul believes a popular tournament like the BPL should be held every year. He also said he was unaware of the decision to postpone the tournament until reporters brought it to his attention.

“I only got to know from you (media) just now, I wasn't aware BPL will not take place. BPL is a popular tournament for Bangladesh,” the former goalkeeper told reporters.

“Why it didn't happen, we need to discuss. We will obviously monitor in future that this kind of competition takes place regularly,” he added.
