The Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) could not organise the Third Division Qualifying Tournament during the 2025-26 season due to various complications. The postponed competition is now set to get under way in the final week of this month.
The CCDM urged entries for the tournament and received a strong response, with a total of 70 Dhaka clubs registering for the competition by submitting a pay order of Tk100,000 each on Saturday.
The group-stage draw was held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday in the presence of representatives of the participating clubs.
The 70 teams have been divided into 16 groups, with some groups comprising four teams and others five.
Following the format used in the last FIFA World Cup, the top two teams from each group will advance to the Round of 32. The competition will then progress to the Round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and final.
The champions and runners-up will earn promotion to the Third Division Cricket League.
This year’s qualifying tournament will be played in the T20 format across five venues, with all matches to be played with white balls.
For the first time, teams in the Third Division Qualifiers will also take the field in colored jerseys.
