Despite getting eliminated in the Round of 16 of the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow on Monday, Bangladeshi-American boxer Zinnat Ferdous expressed hope of a brighter future. She lost 5-0 against her Northern Irish counterpart Caitlin Fryers in the 51kg opening bout.
Talking to World Boxing following the defeat, a dejected Zinnat said, "It's very natural to feel disappointed. I came to represent Bangladesh and, you know, my teammate, the last two fights, he won indecisively, and I wanted to follow that manner."
"But hey, I tried my best, and I hope my country, my friends, my fans see that. I will be back," she continued, wishing to come back stronger.
She further stated that talks are ongoing at the highest level with regards to the future of Bangladesh boxing.
"I just had a meeting with the sports minister. We're talking with the olympic association (as well)," she noted.
"We're hoping that the country, the government sees that there's hope with boxing. Invest in us, and we'll prove you," she concluded.
Despite being a native New Yorker, the tenacious boxer previously represented the red and green a couple of times in the international stage, such as Asian Games 2023, XIX International Silesian Women's Boxing Championships 2024 in Poland, ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships 2024 in Thailand and Boxam Elite Tournament 2025 in Spain.
Her notable achievements include bronze medals in Poland and Spain.
