The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Tamim Iqbal has been appointed as the chairman of the Franchise Cricket Committee, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced this in an official statement on Wednesday.

The committee also comprises of Dr Rudie Van Vuuren (Cricket Namibia), Devajit Saikia (Board of Control for Cricket in India), Richard Gould (England and Wales Cricket Board) and Todd Greenberg (Cricket Australia).

This Tamim-lead committee will oversee the growth of the franchise tournaments around the world, the effect of it on the international calendar, overall sustainability of the leagues and the enhancement of player welfare.

Previously, Tamim attended an ICC meeting in Edinburg during this year's Women’s T20 World Cup, where he was acknowledged as the BCB president by the highest governing body of cricket.

The youngest BCB president himself has played in franchise tournaments all over the world like Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Pakistan Super League, Indian Premier League and Caribbean Premier League.

His score of 141 not out off 61 balls in the 2019 final still stands as the highest individual score in BPL, and second highest individual score in a finale of any franchise league.
