As excitement builds around the FIFA World Cup 2026, an Argentine football supporter in Bangladesh has drawn widespread attention by painting a banyan tree in the colours of Argentina’s national flag.
A video showing the uniquely decorated tree has gone viral on social media, adding to the long list of unusual displays of support that often emerge during major football tournaments.
Fans around the world frequently express their devotion through creative acts such as making giant flags, travelling long distances to watch matches, or decorating homes and public spaces in team colours.
Speaking about the initiative, the supporter said the tree was first painted in 2022 during the previous World Cup and has now been repainted following the 2026 tournament.
"We decorated it in 2022, and we have decorated it again. Young people and elders from the community worked together on it," he said.
He added that approximately Tk10,000 was spent on transforming the banyan tree into a tribute to the Argentine flag.
The video has attracted considerable attention online, with many users praising the creativity and enthusiasm of local football fans.
