Bangladesh are all set to be a part of history when they face South Africa in their debut outing at the iconic Lord’s for their last group stage game of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on Sunday.

Nigar Sultana Joty and Co will be eyeing to stamp their authority against Laura Wolvaardt’s team and make their debut game at the home of cricket memorable.

“It's not about success everytime, the way this unit is growing day by day, it's a success for me. Playing at Lord's will be good for the time, we hope to create memories there,” Joty said at the presentation ceremony following the loss to neighbours India, igniting fresh belief that Bangladesh are ready to take the field with pride despite difficult equations of qualification.

Before the start of the tournament, Joty’s team, in spite of having a fairly ordinary run in the previous T20 World Cup instalments, set an ambitious target of winning at least three matches in this year’s edition, taking place on English soil.

The Tigresses already have two wins and the skipper is on the brink of fulfilling her pre-tournament wish.

However, the tournament, statistically, did not go that well as far as individual performances are concerned.

Ritu Moni, Nahida Akter, Marufa Akter, Sanjida Akter Meghla – all sit at four wickets each but none have been remarkable or caught the world by storm.

Although, they still have one more match to turn the tables.

On the other hand, Juairiya Ferdous and Joty sit on the cusp of a personal milestone – scoring 100 runs in the tournament (98 & 95 respectively).

Yet, Bangladesh achieving two wins in this tournament did not really require any individual brilliance but a solid team effort.

They proved it so by beating the Netherlands convincingly in the beginning, and then went on to snatching a historic triumph over Pakistan.

The chance to play at Lord’s does not come very often.

No possible simulation can help understand the magnitude of participating in any possible event taking place at the “Mecca of Cricket”.

Hence the Tigresses, despite the critical scenario of qualification in front of them, should look forward to grace the occasion and seize the moment.
