Experienced Bangladesh batter Mushfiqur Rahim has said that conditions in Zimbabwe are similar to Australia, pointing out that it will help him and the side to prepare well for the Test series Down Under.
The 39-year old appeared in a podcast “Simply Sayeed” where he expressed wish to play in the one-off Test against Zimbabwe in Harare later this month.
Mushfiq is all set to play the 103rd Test of his career against the Zimbabweans.
“If I get the chance to play in Australia, I will have only one opportunity before that. Doesn’t matter how much I prepare in Sylhet, Dhaka, Chattogram or even Bogura, Zimbabwe offers pretty similar cold and bouncy track where I can also simulate the situation. That is the only reason; otherwise it is not even a part of the (World) Test Championship,” Mushfiq said.
“I also think the conditions in Zimbabwe are not that easy. If you see, we have not won any Test series there yet, maybe we have won one-off Tests, but the last time we played (a Test series), I think in 2013, both the teams won one each. So I think it is a challenging condition and nothing else,” he concluded.
Mushfiq averages 32.14 in the four Test matches that he played on Zimbabwean soil, with 93 being the highest he has managed.
