Australia have drafted uncapped all-rounder Nikhil Chaudhary into their squad for the upcoming T20 International series against Bangladesh as a replacement for Travis Head.
The 29-year-old Hobart Hurricanes player will arrive in Dhaka on Friday and begin preparations with the Australian squad ahead of the three-match series.
National selector Tony Dodemaide said that Nikhil had been on Australia's radar for some time and was already part of the touring plans as a standby player.
“Nikhil has been a player of national interest for some time. He was a standby player for this tour, joining the squad at pre-season camps in Brisbane and comes in as a replacement for Head,” Dodemaide said.
“The panel has been impressed by his Big Bash League form, particularly last season, leading to his addition to the squad. He has also been part of the Delhi Capitals setup in this year’s Indian Premier League.”
Born in India before moving to Australia, Nikhil has emerged as one of the most exciting all-rounders in the BBL.
His strong performances for Hobart earned him recognition from the national selectors, while his involvement with Delhi in the IPL further enhanced his credentials.
Dodemaide believes that the Bangladesh tour will provide the all-rounder with an ideal opportunity to experience international cricket and potentially earn his maiden Australia cap.
“Nikhil will gain invaluable experience in Bangladesh and will be in contention to play his first game for Australia when we sit down to pick a team for the opening T20 fixture here next week,” he said.
