Basketball referee and table officials clinic held at Bashundhara Sports City

A basketball referee and table officials clinic was held at the international-standard facility of Bashundhara Sports City as part of efforts to further modernise and professionalise sports development in the country.

The programme, conducted under the national referees’ initiative, aims to enhance the quality of officiating in basketball and strengthen the overall standard of the game.

Major (retd) Md Atiqul Hafiz, Secretary of the Bangladesh Basketball Federation, attended the event as chief guest. He was welcomed by Senior Executive Director of Bashundhara Sports City Major (retd) Mohsinul Karim.

Speaking at the event, Mohsinul Karim said the organisation has been working continuously to improve the standard of sports in the country as part of its social responsibility.

Major (retd) Atiqul Hafiz expressed satisfaction at the opportunity to conduct the referee selection programme in a world-class venue. He noted that better referees would directly contribute to improving the quality of the game.

He also thanked the Bashundhara authorities for opening up such modern facilities for sports development initiatives.

Head of Operations of Bashundhara Sports City Masudur Rahman Manna said all facilities at the venue meet international standards.

“Efforts are ongoing to involve different federations so that athletes in the country can benefit from world-class infrastructure,” he added.

Participants in the national-level training programme were evaluated for their officiating skills. Based on assessments, some participants were selected for physical tests while others were assigned theoretical examinations.

Organisers said the selection and evaluation process has been completed successfully. The programme will formally conclude after the final examination of selected candidates.

Stakeholders believe such initiatives will play a significant role in elevating Bangladesh’s basketball standards to the international level, while also demonstrating Bashundhara Sports City’s capacity to host high-quality sporting events.
