The second season of the "Cadet Squash League 2026" concluded in a vibrant and festive atmosphere at the Bashundhara Sports City in the capital on Friday, showcasing intense competition and a strong sense of camaraderie among the former cadets.
Organised by the Cadet Squash Fraternity in collaboration with the Bangladesh Squash Rackets Federation (BSRF), the day-long tournament brought together 40 participant cadets representing 12 cadet colleges from across the country.
Breaking new ground, this edition also featured active participation from female cadets, adding a dynamic new dimension to the competition.
The tournament itinerary commenced at 9am, followed by an official press conference at 11am, and culminated in a grand award ceremony at 5pm.
Major General Muhammad Hasan Uz Zaman, NDU, AFWC, PSC, M Phil—President of the BSRF and an alumnus of Barisal Cadet College—graced the occasion as the chief guest and distributed prizes among the winners.
The event was also attended by Major General Abdul Matin (retd), president of the Faujdarhat Old Cadets Association (FOCA); Brigadier General G M Kamrul Islam, SPP (retd), general secretary of the BSRF); along with a large number of former cadets, organisers, and media personnel.
Compared to its inaugural edition held at the Dhaka Club last year, Season 2 witnessed a significant expansion, with participant turnout doubling in this year's edition.
Marks Medical College was the title sponsor for this year’s expanded format, while Bashundhara Sports City was the official venue partner.
From the preliminary rounds to the knockouts and final, the tournament witnessed high-voltage matches.
Prizes were awarded to the top four competitors in both the Elite and Plate categories, alongside a dedicated women's segment.
According to the organisers, such corporate and institution-backed initiatives play a crucial role in popularising squash—a sport that has historically lacked widespread visibility in Bangladesh—while fostering institutional partnerships within the sports arena.
Speaking on the occasion, BSRF GS Brigadier General Kamrul (retd) emphasised the broader impact of the event.
"Beyond the immaculate joy of sportsmanship and fierce competitiveness, these highly talented and brilliant cadets are destined for key leadership roles in the country. Their involvement will be pivotal in reviving and promoting the sport of squash, which has long been in a dormant state in Bangladesh," he stated.
The Chief Guest, Major General Hasan, extended his gratitude to the Bashundhara Group, Marks Group, and the organisers for their seamless execution of the event.
He expressed optimism that this momentum would be sustained and that the tournament would scale to even greater heights in the coming years.
