Bashundhara Kings have reclaimed their rightful place at the summit of Bangladesh football, completing a historic "hexa" of league titles with a game to spare—a monumental milestone unmatched by any other club in the league save for their vanquished opponents, Abahani Limited.
Yet, beyond the clinical 2-0 victory over the Sky Blues in Cumilla on Friday afternoon to equal that exclusive record, it was the raw, unbridled emotion of club president Imrul Hassan that truly captured the profound weight of this latest triumph.
Having utterly dominated the domestic landscape since the 2018-19 season by securing five of the previous six championships, the Kings endured a bitter setback when they relinquished the crown to Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd in the 2024-25 campaign.
Returning to the pinnacle after a season in the wilderness, amidst what the club hierarchy described as immense behind-the-scenes adversity, clearly took a heavy emotional toll.
Taking to social media in the aftermath of the victory, an overwhelmed Imrul laid bare the struggles his administration faced, dedicating the title to the resilience of his squad and sharing a deeply personal moment of celebration.
"Over the last seven years, the Kings have won many trophies. But the significance of this title is entirely different," Imrul wrote on his official Facebook profile.
"We have had to navigate through hundreds of adversities both on and off the pitch. Even though we failed to fulfil our duties, we had faith and trust in the players and coaches. I believe they have now repaid us for what we have provided over the past few years. The credit for this title goes entirely to the players, coaches, and support staff, and most certainly to our supporters, who have backed the team selflessly during these difficult times. Congratulations to everyone."
The club president then shared the touching reality of the final whistle: "As the referee blew the final whistle confirming the title, tears glistened in my eyes. Seeing this, my younger son asked, 'Why are you crying on my birthday, Papa?' I hugged him and said, 'These are tears of joy, Papa.' The triumph of the title and the joy of his birthday have made this day infinitely delightful."
