Bangladesh batter Mushfiqur Rahim on Friday tagged the current side as the most consistent in Bangladesh’s Test history.

Since getting Test status in 2000, the Tigers have been victorious in only 26 games out of 157, but Mushfiq cited the long gap between Test matches as the main reason for their under-performance.

The 39-year old believes Bangladesh have improved in the longer-version in recent times as they played Tests more frequently, giving the players more chances to express themselves in the middle.

“If you notice, as a whole team we had great individual players in our Test team before, but overall if you talk about consistency, if you observe, definitely, our current Test team is obviously more consistent than ever. In the past we used to play two-three Tests in a year, on average maybe three was maximum. It is very difficult to attain results playing Tests after such a long time,” Mushfiq told media personnel in Sylhet prior to the second and final Test against tourists Pakistan.

“Now we get to play eight-10 Tests in a year, on average maybe six or seven, we find it comparatively easy, rather than before. In that sense I’d say we are more experienced, especially the batsmen. The players are executing, performing well, I would say the number of performers in the team has increased. If the number of consistent performers is five to seven or eight, that team will do well regardless of the format,” he added.
