Amidst the busy and crowded city, there is a burst of life at the heart of Dhanmondi in the capital.
On a holiday, children and teenagers are enjoying cricket, football, and tennis at Dhanmondi Sports Club.
The State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Haque has joined as a companion in the club's new journey as the country's first sustainable social sports club — a club with which he has had a long-standing relationship.

There are spacious grounds for football and cricket.
Aminul toured the facilities with the club's stakeholders.
The former captain of the national football team also exchanged pleasantries with the club's young players and offered them inspiration.

“We would like to keep the clubs above political differences… Starting from Dhanmondi Society, I would like to request everyone who lives in this area, and all those who are closely involved in running this club, especially those I have in mind, such as Ishtiaque (Sadeque) bhai and the other leaders present here, that the time has come for you to think afresh about how to develop this club either as a fully social club, or about how we can further expand our club's contribution in the field of sports,” said Amimul at the club premises during his visit.
The club is wrapped in much success and fame in football and cricket.
However, this time Dhanmondi Sports Club is set to embark on a full-fledged journey as a social sports club focused on sustainability.
Permanent members of the club and their families will have access to international-standard facilities for cricket, football, tennis, basketball, and various indoor games.
The Dhanmondi Sports Club authority has also taken up plans to build a spacious swimming pool and an international-standard hair salon and spa in the future.
The Dhanmondi Society is also actively playing a role in the maintenance of the club.
In a discussion with everyone at Dhanmondi Sports Club, Aminul stated that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman always welcomes such initiatives, and that the Ministry of Youth and Sports will play a role — with the help of local people — in comprehensively developing Dhanmondi Sports Club, so that it can independently contribute to building a healthy society.
“We have seen that clubs mostly run on donations, and as a result of running on donations, we have seen that due to our social or political context, these clubs often go through ups and downs. This causes the clubs, and the players associated with the clubs, to suffer in many ways. We want to move away from this approach and discuss how the clubs can be managed in a permanent, sustainable way, by making them self-reliant, so that the clubs never face any losses. I believe that all of us together, along with those of you who live locally or who are running these clubs locally, can restructure and rebuild this club from the ground up,” Aminul concluded.
