Hridoy heaps praise on teammate Shamim

Player of the match Towhid Hridoy heaped praise on teammate Shamim Hossain Patwary after Bangladesh recorded their highest successful chase at home, winning the series opening T20 international against New Zealand by six wickets in Chattogram on Monday.

Hridoy was unbeaten on a 27-ball 51 alongside Shamim as the duo guided Bangladesh to their target of 183 with two overs to spare.

Shamim’s 13-ball 31 not out was no less crucial and Hridoy appreciated it as such during the post-match press conference.

“I really enjoy his batting, to be honest. Because he plays such shots that very few of our batsmen can play. At number six, you need such a player who can hit runs in any direction at any time. Bowlers are also under a lot of pressure from such shots. For example, that six he hit, if you notice, we can very rarely hit such sixes. So, of course, I pray that he does even better and stays consistent, Insha'Allah,” said Hridoy.
