Bashundhara Kings have successfully repelled Abahani Limited Dhaka’s title challenge, restoring their outright lead at the summit of the Bangladesh Football League.

A solitary first-half strike from Brazilian forward Dorielton Gomes Nascimento secured a vital 1-0 victory over Brothers Union at the Bashundhara Kings Arena on Saturday.

Following Abahani’s gritty victory on Friday that temporarily drew them level, the pressure was firmly on the reigning champions.

With Saturday's result, the Kings have now tallied 31 points from 14 matches, re-establishing a crucial three-point cushion over their fierce Dhaka rivals.

The decisive moment in the match arrived in the 22nd minute, stemming from a costly defensive error by Brothers Union.

Winger Yasin Arafat Sifat surrendered possession with a misplaced pass, allowing the Kings’ left-back Saad Uddin to capitalise.

Saad surged forward and slipped a precision pass into the penalty area for Dorielton, who made no mistake with a clinical finish.

Despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances, the Kings were repeatedly frustrated by Brothers goalkeeper Ishaque, who produced several outstanding saves to deny both Foysal Ahmed Fahim and Dorielton in the second half.

Brothers, who remain seventh with 13 points, offered brief attacking threats through their captain Jamal Bhuyan but ultimately lacked the cutting edge to force an equaliser.

Elsewhere, defending champions Mohammedan Sporting Club Ltd secured a dramatic 3-1 victory over PWD SC at the Shahid Barkat Stadium in Gazipur.

Jewel Mia gave Mohammedan an early lead in the 15th minute, but PWD’s Abdullah stunned the visitors with an 85th-minute equaliser.

Just as the match seemed destined for a draw, an 89th-minute penalty converted by Uzbekistan midfielder Muzaffarjon Muzaffarov restored Mohammedan's advantage, before Rafayel Tudu added a third in stoppage time.

The win marks a successful start for newly appointed head coach Abdul Qaiyum Sentu, who guided fifth-placed Mohammedan to their second consecutive league victory.

Rounding off Saturday’s fixtures, Bangladesh Police FC cruised to a 3-1 win against Fakirerpool YMC at the Shaheed Miraj-Tapan Stadium in Manikganj.

A dominant first-half brace from Paulo put Police firmly in control before the interval.

Although Shadin pulled a goal back for Fakirerpool on the hour mark, Kagimu struck in the 78th minute to extinguish any hopes of a comeback and seal a comfortable three points.
