Talents will always find recognition; who would have thought a spin-dominant country could produce world-class fast bowlers which wave the Bangladesh flag on foreign soil with unmatched pace and solid accuracy?
Bangladesh’s pace revolution roared on foreign soil as Peshawar Zalmi hailed Shoriful Islam and Nahid Rana following their impactful run in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL).
Zalmi released a farewell tribute video on Wednesday, celebrating the bond forged with the Bangladeshi quicks after they wrapped up their PSL duties.
The send-off followed a statement performance on Monday, when the pace duo helped Zalmi hammer Multan Sultans by 24 runs in a crunch encounter.
Zalmi’s request to the Bangladesh Cricket Board to retain the pair for an extra day proved inspired.
Nahid led the charge with a fiery 2 for 24 from four overs, while Shoriful bowled with discipline and menace, conceding just 27 runs to strangle the chase.
The right-arm fast bowler emerged as one of the tournament’s most threatening quicks, snapping up seven wickets in four matches at a miserly economy of 5.42.
The 23-year-old's defining moment came against Karachi Kings, where he took three for seven, setting the record for the most economical spell by a foreign pacer in PSL history with 20 dot balls.
His death-over spell was decisive, touching speeds above 147kph and costing tight runs across nerve-shredding overs.
Shoriful, featuring in one additional match, backed him up with two wickets and vital control, despite an economy of 7.93.
Both pacers returned home on Monday and were back in training by Wednesday, rejoining the national camp ahead of the One Day International series against New Zealand.
Emotions flowed in Zalmi’s farewell video as the duo reflected on their journey.
"PSL is a quality tournament with quality players and wickets," Nahid said, admitting a deep emotional attachment to the franchise.
Shoriful echoed the sentiment with a line that summed up their bond: "I came as a player, but I leave as a Zalmi."
The Bangladeshi quicks thanked the owners, coaches and fans, promising to return stronger and urging supporters to keep backing Zalmi in their title pursuit.
