Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited have sacked head coach Alfaz Ahmed following a prolonged slump in the Bangladesh Football League.
The decision was confirmed on Sunday through an official club statement, citing unsatisfactory results and the need to restore momentum.
Assistant coach Abdul Kayum Sentu will take charge as acting head coach for the remainder of the season.
Club member Md Amirul Islam Babu has been appointed team leader to oversee overall football operations.
In a "strongly worded release, Mohammedan said the board had deeply considered the team’s recent performances" before relieving Alfaz of his duties.
The White and Blacks are currently seventh in the 10-team league, with just 11 points from 12 matches.
They sit only two points above the relegation zone, a sharp fall for the defending champions.
Across the Federation Cup and league combined, Mohammedan are winless in their last eight matches.
Their Federation Cup campaign is also on the brink, with five points from three matches leaving them fourth in Group B.
Victory is mandatory in their final group match to keep playoff hopes alive.
Alfaz was appointed head coach in 2023 and enjoyed immediate success.
Under his guidance, Mohammedan ended a 23-year league title drought last season.
He also steered the club to the Federation Cup crown in 2023, defeating arch-rivals Abahani Limited Dhaka in the final.
However, a dramatic downturn in form this season has prompted the club to act decisively, hoping new leadership can halt the slide before it is too late.
