By citing legal and procedural concerns, the former state adviser for sports Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain fiercely defended his decision to skip a high-profile investigation into the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections.
In a strongly-worded social media post on Sunday, the former adviser declared: “First, a ministry is conducting an investigation beyond its jurisdiction over an autonomous body like the BCB.”
He further alleged bias in the process, stating: “Second, the investigation committee’s notification itself already delivers a decision.”
Raising legal objections, Asif added: “Third, by investigating a matter currently under the High Court, the committee and those involved are committing contempt of court.”
He also levelled serious accusations against the State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Haque, claiming: “Board directors are being tempted with positions in the next board, and those who refuse are being forced to resign through intimidation.”
Explaining his absence, he wrote: “I will not knowingly take part in any unlawful or contemptuous process. That is why I did not respond to the interview notice.”
He further claimed efforts were made to connect with former BCB president Nazmul Hasan Papon and International Cricket Council chairman Jay Shah to avoid possible sanctions from the governing body of world cricket.
The investigation, led by the National Sports Council, has already interviewed around 30 current and former BCB directors.
Asif’s absence has only deepened the crisis, adding fresh fuel to the ongoing turmoil surrounding Bangladesh cricket’s governance.
