The Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced the nationwide launch of "Notun Kuri Sports", a youth talent hunt modelled on the popular 1980s initiative "Notun Kuri".

The programme aims to revive Bangladesh’s sporting glory and identify future stars from grassroots levels.

A preparatory meeting was held at the National Sports Council, Dhaka, with all district commissioners (DCs), upazila executive officers (UNOs), and district sports officers in attendance.

The session was chaired by State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Haque, who outlined the plan ahead of its official inauguration by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on 30 April.

The competition targets children aged 12 to 14, covering seven popular events.

It will begin at the upazila level in Sylhet, advancing through district and divisional stages before culminating at the national level.

The programme will provide selected athletes with government scholarships, while the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan will offer advanced training, education, and comprehensive support.

The initiative also seeks to steer youth away from drugs and digital addiction, promoting a healthy and industrious generation.

The State Minister emphasised that the event will follow an annual calendar, with this year’s edition expected to conclude by July.

Sustained engagement in sports and cultural activities across educational institutions will ensure grassroots participation and foster national unity through sport.
