Mile Akter repaid her coaches’ faith with a fearless performance against China PR, and Bangladesh women’s goalkeeping coach Masud Ahamad Uzzal shared the inside story of a bold selection call that turned into one of Bangladesh’s biggest positives in their AFC Women’s Asian Cup debut.
Thrown into the starting XI ahead of regular goalkeeper Rupna Chakma, Mile stood tall as Bangladesh lost 2–0 to the record nine-time winners. The decision to start her was no last-minute gamble.
Goalkeeping coach Uzzal revealed that the move had been carefully planned for months.
“We have had a plan for Mile for two months now,” he said.
“We decided two months ago, after discussing with the head coach, that we would start with Mile against China,” he noted.
“During the Women’s League, our domestic league, and my training sessions, we worked on China’s strengths and how we could utilise Mile’s height. Mile has proven that she can play.”
The faith shown by the coaching staff was repaid on the pitch.
Even China coach Ante Milecic admitted he was surprised by the goalkeeper selection before praising her performance as exceptional.
With DPR Korea looming next, Mile’s assured presence offers belief that the Tigresses can once again rise above their weight on the continental stage.
