Bangladesh batting coach Mohammad Ashraful believes that the ongoing Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL) One-Day Version performances created a looming “selection headache” for the national selectors.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, the former Bangladesh skipper said the tournament has provided a crucial platform for both established and fringe cricketers to sharpen their form before the upcoming Pakistan series.
“The tournament will be very beneficial for every one of our players,” the former captain said. “Those who have performed and those who haven’t, everyone will get opportunities to improve.”
The former cricketer pointed to Soumya Sarkar as an example of a player who has already delivered after his comeback.
“Soumya scored 47 in one match and 95 in another in the last One Day International series. He has scored runs in international cricket. He may not have scored here, but with proper training and perhaps a practice match, he’ll get another opportunity to find his rhythm,” he added.
The 41-year-old stressed that with a heavy calendar of Tests, ODIs, and T20 Internationals over the next two years, rotation will be inevitable.
“The 60 players playing in the BCL all have opportunities. Selectors may need to rotate the squad quite a bit. That’s why staying in form is very important for everyone,” Ashraful said.
“Congratulations to Jishan (Alam). Akbar (Ali) also batted outstandingly. If they continue performing, the selectors will definitely consider them,” the coach concluded, praising the young Tigers.
