One of Bangladesh’s leading female shooters, Kamrun Nahar Koly, has been banned from shooting for one year by the Bangladesh Shooting Sport Federation (BSSF), according to an official notification issued recently.
Earlier, on 1 January, the federation had temporarily suspended Koly and issued a show-cause notice about a month ago.
Although Koly explained her position, the federation did not find her response satisfactory. As a result, the executive committee decided to impose a one-year ban for allegedly violating seven clauses of the training camp’s code of conduct.
The decision was finalised during the federation’s executive committee meeting held on 2 February.
In the official letter, the federation claimed that Koly displayed “indecent, threatening, and aggressive behaviour” towards the general secretary, executive committee members, officials, and staff during an incident at the federation office on 25 January.
The letter also mentioned that the incident took place in the presence of police officers and damaged the federation’s discipline, security, and institutional reputation.
The controversy gained more attention because Koly had earlier raised allegations of corruption and irregularities against the current federation committee.
She also publicly accused former joint secretary GM Haider Sazzad of sexual harassment.
Several other shooters had spoken out alongside her, but Koly alone has faced disciplinary action.
The incident has once again sparked debate over governance, transparency, and athlete rights in Bangladesh’s shooting sports arena.
