The contest was firmly in Dhumketu XI’s pocket until a whirlwind named Nurul Hasan Sohan snatched it away at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Friday.
In a stunning reversal of fortunes, Durbar XI pulled off a two-wicket heist that has revitalised the Odommo Bangladesh T20 Cup 2026, proving that even a star-studded national side isn't safe until the final ball is bowled.
Batting first, Dhumketu XI posted 156/8, thanks to Litton Das’ 43 and a crucial late 31 not out from Mahedi Hasan.
Mahedi then appeared to have settled the result with a bowling masterclass, returning figures of 4/11. His spin masterclass left Durbar reeling at 90/6, and with 33 needed off the final two overs, the match seemed destined for a Dhumketu victory.
However, the 19th over turned the stadium into a theater of the absurd.
Facing the pace of Shoriful Islam, Sohan unleashed a brutal, calculated assault that left the national team's premier left-arm seamer shell-shocked. Sohan cleared the ropes four times in six balls—dispatching deliveries to deep mid-wicket, long-off, and over deep backward point with clinical precision. A brace tucked into the middle of the over ensured a staggering 26 runs were looted from the set.
The "Sohan Storm" decimated the required rate, dragging a seemingly impossible equation down to just seven needed off the final six deliveries.
The drama peaked in the final over.
Despite Sohan falling for a magnificent 76 off 44 balls (4x4s, 6x6s) via a frantic run-out, the damage was already done. Hasan Mahmud kept his cool under immense pressure, punching a backfoot boundary to deep backward point to seal the win with three balls to spare.
Despite the heartbreak, Dhumketu XI remain top with two points and a healthy Net Run Rate (+0.755), leaving them all but through to the final.
Durbar XI move to second place with two points, setting up a high-stakes clash against Duronto XI on Saturday.
