Bangladesh shooter Robiul Islam has expressed concern over reports of a Nipah virus outbreak in West Bengal as he prepares for an overseas assignment in Delhi, although he confirmed that his travel formalities have been cleared.

Robiul said his Government Order (GO) was issued on Wednesday night, allowing him to travel without a visa due to his Blue Passport for the 10m Air Rifle (Men’s).

“Yes, that’s correct. I have a Blue Passport,” he confirmed.

Asked about the Nipah virus situation and possible quarantine measures in regions like Thailand and Delhi, Robiul admitted the issue is worrying.

“It is concerning, especially after what we experienced during the COVID pandemic,” he said. “As far as I know, it hasn't reached Delhi yet, but we have to take our own precautions. But we’ve been told from the Navy to follow the same precautions we used during COVID, such as avoiding crowds.”

The shooter will fly to India on 2 February and compete for glory on the 6th. Then, he will return to Dhaka on 7 February.
