Bangladesh maintained their winning momentum in the SAFF Futsal Championship, cruising past Sri Lanka with a dominant 5–1 victory, marking their second consecutive win in the tournament on Tuesday. The red-and-green side produced a clinical performance, combining swift attacks with solid defensive discipline to strengthen their hopes of progressing to the next stage.
Sri Lanka started the match aggressively, launching a series of attacks and testing Bangladesh’s defence early on. Despite having two shots on target, they failed to capitalise. Bangladesh, however, made the most of their first clear chance. In the fifth minute, captain Rahbar Wahed Khan struck from the flank to give Bangladesh the lead.
The advantage was short-lived as Sri Lanka responded instantly. Just a minute later, their captain converted a free-kick to level the score at 1–1. Bangladesh regained control of the game and continued to press forward. In the 18th minute, Rahbar once again found the net, restoring Bangladesh’s lead and sending his side into halftime ahead 2–1.
The second half saw Bangladesh dominate from the outset. Only three minutes after the restart, Moin Ahmed extended the lead with a precise finish. The goal was his fifth of the tournament, putting him at the top of the scoring charts.
Bangladesh continued to pile on pressure, and in the 15th minute, Tajware Bin Kashem added the fourth goal, effectively sealing the contest. Sri Lanka, trailing by four goals, pushed their goalkeeper forward in a desperate attempt to reduce the deficit. But the tactic backfired.
Capitalising on a turnover, Mohammad Abir Hossain unleashed a long-range strike into the empty net, making it 5–1 and sealing a comprehensive victory for Bangladesh.
With this victory, Bangladesh now have seven points from four matches, with two wins, one draw, and one defeat, placing them second in the points table.
Bangladesh will next face Pakistan on Thursday, with the match scheduled to kick off at 3:30pm. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh women’s futsal team will take on Sri Lanka on Wednesday at 1pm.
