Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has taken a swift and firm disciplinary decision during the ongoing SAFF Futsal Championship in Bangkok, Thailand, removing national futsal team vice-captain Intishar Mostafa Chowdhury from the squad with immediate effect over repeated breaches of discipline.
In an official letter issued by the BFF futsal department on 17 January the federation confirmed that Intishar will not be allowed to take part in any remaining matches of the SAFF Futsal Championship. The decision came after Bangladesh had already completed two official matches in the tournament.
BFF sources said multiple serious allegations of misconduct against the vice-captain were proven during the competition, involving violations of team discipline, the code of conduct and professional behaviour guidelines. The federation’s review found that his actions disrupted team discipline, weakened the leadership structure and had a negative impact on team unity, morale and the overall dressing-room environment.
Confirming the decision, Bangladesh team manager Imranur Rahman told over the phone from Bangkok that the federation’s priority remains firmly on the team’s on-court performance.
“Our focus right now is completely on the matches,” Imranur said. “We came here with the hope of achieving a good result. Due to a breach of discipline, Intishar has been released from the squad and will be returning home. There is nothing more to add beyond that.”
Meanwhile, repeated attempts to contact Intishar Mostafa Chowdhury over the phone were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls.
After the match, Intishar shared a video on social media on Saturday night where he said his “heart was pounding” at the time and claimed he had asked to be substituted but was forced to remain on the field. According to Intishar, his reaction occurred instinctively as the ball was heading into the net.
“My heart was pounding - Was asking for a sub, but was forced to stay in the field at that time. Hence the reflex just came in as the ball was going into the net! Sorry, Bangladesh.”
Intishar featured in Bangladesh’s first two matches of the championship and was shown a red card in the second game. That further drew attention to his conduct during the tournament. Bangladesh were scheduled to play their third match on Sunday evening, but the announcement of the vice-captain’s removal was made before the team took the field."
