After the ‘No handshake’ drama by the Indian skipper at the toss, Bangladesh men’s U-19 stopped India on 238 in their first match of the ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup on Saturday. Bangladesh pacer Al Fahad grabbed 5 wickets, while India’s teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi created history by becoming the youngest cricketer ever to score a half-century in a Men’s U-19 World Cup match.
Winning the toss, the young Tigers called India to bat; Sooryavanshi and the captain Ayush Mhatre, stepped out to the pitch. Sooryavanshi made a quick fifty in 30-deliveries and became the youngest cricketer to score a half-century in a U-19 World Cup counter. At just 14 years and 296 days, Sooryavanshi achieved this and surpassed the previous record held by Afghanistan’s Shahidullah Kamal, who scored a fifty against the West Indies at the age of 15 years and 19 days. After his departure on 72 runs, Abhigyan Kundu also added 80 runs, but others faded away as Bangladesh bowled them out on 238.
Fahad got five wickets, conceding 38 runs, Iqbal Hossain Emon and the captain Azizul Hakim bagged two wickets each.
