Sylhet Titans all-rounder Moeen Ali has identified leg-spinner Rishad Hossain as Bangladesh’s next big star, praising the young bowler’s potential and development in a recent interview.
Responding to a question, the former England international was unequivocal in his assessment. “Definitely, I think he’s one,” Moeen said. “There are some good young players, but yes, I think he is.”
Moeen also backed Rishad’s decision to prioritise his stint in the Big Bash League (BBL) over the ongoing Bashundhara Cement Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), saying the experience would benefit both the player and Bangladesh cricket.
“In his case, I think it’s the right decision,” he said. “He will learn more there, and he will be better for Bangladesh cricket. He’s a wrist-spinner, he’s young, and he’s very good.”
The left-hander believes exposure to high-level competition will accelerate Rishad’s growth. “I think he will be the next big player for Bangladesh. He’s an excellent bowler and is already building his reputation. He has to go and make a name for himself,” Moeen added.
While acknowledging that Rishad’s absence is a loss for the BPL, Moeen stressed the long-term value of overseas experience. “It’s a shame he’s missing the BPL, but I think it’s good for him and good for Bangladesh cricket,” he concluded.
