Bashundhara Cement Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) governing council member Iftekhar Rahman Mithu defended the Anti-Corruption Unit’s (ACU) conduct on Saturday amid allegations that Dhaka Capitals batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz was woken from sleep and questioned during the tournament.
Responding to claims raised by Dhaka Capitals CEO Atik Fahad, Mithu stated that he was not aware of any specific allegation against Gurbaz but emphasized that the ACU was operating strictly within its mandate.
“I don’t know that either. Let me say one thing — they are very strict,” Mithu told reporters. He pointed to the high level of security and monitoring in place, noting that even senior BPL officials face restrictions. “There is a designated PMO area where even the umpires stay, and it is located between the two dressing rooms. Even I, despite managing the BPL, am not allowed there. That shows the level of strictness and how dedicatedly they are working.”
Regarding the reported incident involving Gurbaz, Mithu said further clarification could be sought, but maintained that the ACU had not breached its authority. “The guidelines and anti-corruption codes clearly state that they have full rights in how they conduct monitoring. They have not stepped outside those guidelines,” he said.
Mithu added that any dissatisfaction with the process was a personal issue. “If someone does not like it, that is an individual matter,” he remarked, reiterating his confidence in the ACU’s adherence to established protocols.
