In a display of nerves as cold as ice, the Chattogram Royals cemented their dominance at the top of the Bashundhara Cement Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) table with a dramatic two-wicket victory over the Rajshahi Warriors at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Friday.
Chasing a modest target of 129, the league
leaders survived a top-order collapse to snatch victory on the very last
delivery of the match.
The contest transformed into a classic
defensive battle after Binura Fernando (3/18) left the Royals reeling at a
disastrous 28/4.
However, Hasan Nawaz remained the calm
center of the storm.
The finale was pure theater. After finding
a crucial boundary, Nawaz faced quite an easy equation: two runs needed from
three balls. But a pair of high-pressure dot balls took the game to the final
delivery, leaving the result on a knife-edge.
With everything to lose, Nawaz placed the
ball perfectly to scramble the winning double, sparking wild celebrations as
non-striker Shoriful Islam flung his bat into the air in pure jubilation.
This royal escape ensures Chattogram
remains the team to beat, while Rajshahi is left to rue a victory that slipped
through their fingers.
