Bashundhara Kings return to Bangladesh Football League action on Saturday under pressure, desperate to bounce back from their first defeat of the season as they lock horns with arch-rivals Abahani Ltd in Round 8.
The five-time champions were stunned 2–1 by Bangladesh Police FC in the previous round at the Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur, a result that snapped their unbeaten run.
Despite the setback, Kings remain top of the table with 16 points from seven matches and still dictate the pace of the title race.
Round 8 action got underway on Friday, where Bangladesh Police FC produced another commanding display, hammering Arambagh Krira Shangha 3–0 at the Shaheed Miraj-Tapan Stadium in Manikganj.
That emphatic win underlined Police FC’s growing confidence as they continue to trouble the league’s heavyweights.
Saturday’s marquee clash kicks off at 5:30 PM at the Bashundhara Kings Arena, with Kings aiming to turn frustration into force.
They will look to reassert their dominance and steady themselves against a rival that thrives on big occasions.
Abahani currently sit fifth with nine points from seven matches, recording two wins, three draws and two defeats in an inconsistent campaign.
Their last outing ended in a 2–2 draw against PWD Sports Club, highlighting both their attacking flair and defensive lapses.
A positive result against the champions could reshape Abahani’s season and restore belief within the squad.
Elsewhere on Saturday, three Round 8 matches will kick off at 2:30 PM.
PWD Sports Club face Fakirerpool Young Men’s Club at the Shahid Barkat Stadium in Gazipur.
Brothers Union Ltd take on Fortis FC Ltd at the Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.
Mohammedan SC meet Rahamatganj MFS at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla.
As the league edges towards a crucial phase, Round 8 promises intensity and intrigue—but all eyes will remain fixed on Dhaka, where Bashundhara Kings seek redemption against Abahani Ltd.
