The Aqua Paints–Elite Steel 4th Victory Day Squash Championship 2025 and the World Squash Federation (WSF) Level-1 Coaching Course concluded successfully with a grand closing ceremony on Wednesday at Bashundhara Sports City, marking another significant step forward for squash in Bangladesh.
Around 150 male and female players from different districts, clubs, schools and universities took part in the competition, delivering high-quality and highly competitive performances. The event clearly demonstrated how squash, once a marginal sport in the country, is regaining momentum through structured planning and strong institutional support.
After the finals, trophies, cash prizes and gift vouchers were distributed among the winners, while certificates were awarded to participants of the WSF Level-1 Coaching Course. In the women’s events, Puja Rani won the U-15 title, while Bangladesh Army’s Chandni Sarkar claimed the Open Women’s crown. In the men’s categories, players from BKSP and educational institutions impressed, with Army corporal Shahadat Hossain securing the Men’s Open title.
The programme was presided over by Elite Group Managing Director and Bangladesh Squash Federation Executive Committee Member Ramzul Siraj. The chief guest was BFF President Tabith Awal, who praised Bashundhara Group’s contribution to sports development.
“Bashundhara Group has always stood beside sports and social activities. I believe squash will also receive stronger patronage in the days ahead,” he said.
Bashundhara Sports City Senior Executive Director Major (Retd) Mohsin Karim reaffirmed the group’s long-term vision. “Our Chairman, Mr. Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, has a strong dream and vision for sports, and we are working towards turning that vision into reality. Bashundhara Group has invested nearly TK25,000 crore in this complex. Bashundhara believes in health, fitness and all-weather sports. If a solid foundation for squash is required, we are ready to support, even up to developing central courts,” he stated.
Federation Secretary General Brigadier General G M Quamrul Islam (Retd) said, “Despite limited resources and the absence of our own courts, we have managed to revive squash through proper planning over the last five years. Initiatives like Classroom Squash have helped make the sport accessible to all.”
