Former Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar has withdrawn from the upcoming Bangladesh Premier League after being appointed team manager and mentor of Chattogram Royals.

Speaking to Daily Sun from the USA, Bashar confirmed his decision.  

“I decided to pull out of this BPL due to some family reasons,” he said.

The Royals had brought him in for a dual role, banking on his experience and leadership to guide the new franchise in their maiden campaign. His sudden withdrawal is a setback for the side as they gear up for their first season in the tournament.

Chattogram Royals have already signed all-rounder Mahedi Hasan and left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam as direct local recruits for the season.
