Bangladesh batter Tanzid Hasan Tamim revealed that his celebration after reaching fifty in the third and final T20I against Ireland was a pointed gesture toward the dressing room, dedicated to team manager and former Bangladesh cricketer Nafis Iqbal.
The left-handed opener reached his 11th T20I half-century with a six over mid-wicket off Craig Young in the 13th over at the Bir Shreshtha Shahid Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram.
He later explained, “Our manager Nafis Iqbal bhai called me last night about a ticket. I told him, ‘This is a gift for you.’ Then he said, in the next match if I score 50 runs, I should raise the bat and show it to him. So this dedication is for him.”
The batter reached his fifty off just 35 balls and finished unbeaten on 55 from 36 balls, including four boundaries and three sixes.
Tamim had already made a mark in the field, taking five catches—four at long-on and one at backward point. He began the sequence in the 16th over by catching Gareth Delany off Rishad Hossain, followed by two catches of Mark Adair and Matthew Humphreys in the 18th over off Mustafizur Rahman. After dismissing George Dockrell in the 19th over, Tamim completed his five-catch haul with Ben White’s catch in the final over, moving closer to the record of becoming the first outfielder from a full-member nation to take five catches in a T20I.
