Azerbaijan completed back-to-back victories to secure the Tri-Nation Series title, defeating Bangladesh 2–1 in a fiercely contested match at the National Stadium on Tuesday. Despite being ranked 74th in the world—30 places above Bangladesh—the European side were made to work hard throughout a high-intensity encounter in which Peter Butler’s young squad showed resilience, structure, and attacking intent.

Bangladesh once again adopted a high-line defensive strategy, similar to their approach against Malaysia. Although Azerbaijan managed to break through the backline on several occasions, Bangladeshi defenders recovered well with timely covers, while the visitors were also caught offside multiple times.

Azerbaijan took the lead in the 19th minute when their captain Jafarzada Sevinj cleverly slipped past the defenders and headed the ball into the far corner. The goal was followed by an emotional moment—Sevinj broke down in tears as her teammates gathered around her, holding a white cloth bearing a photograph. It was later learned that the captain dedicated the goal to her mother.

Bangladesh responded with determination and found their equalizer in the 34th minute. A corner from Sapna rani was partially cleared, and midfielder Maria Manda reacted brilliantly, striking a superb effort from the rebound to level the score at 1–1.

Azerbaijan pressed hard following the equalizer and nearly restored their lead just before halftime, but forward attempts were denied by goalkeeper Rupna, who stood strong in a one-on-one situation. The teams entered the break with the score locked at 1–1.

The second half unfolded with end-to-end football as both sides pushed for a winner. Bangladesh looked dangerous in transition, while Azerbaijan relied on their technical superiority and width to stretch the defense.

The decisive moment came in the 82nd minute. A low cross from the left found midfielder Manya Esra, who connected with a precise volley to beat Rupna and put Azerbaijan ahead 2–1.

Bangladesh fought desperately in the remaining minutes, creating half-chances and pushing numbers forward, but could not find the equalizer. The final whistle confirmed Bangladesh’s narrow defeat and Azerbaijan’s clean sweep of the competition.

With two wins from two matches, Azerbaijan were crowned champions of the Tri-Nation Series, while Bangladesh were left to reflect on a brave performance against a physically and technically superior opponent. Despite the loss, the spirited display, disciplined defending, and improved chance creation offered encouraging signs for Butler’s side as they continue their preparations for upcoming international commitments.
