Bangladesh wrapped up their final T20 International before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with a dominant eight-wicket victory over Ireland, winning the three-match series 2-1 at the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Motiur Rahman Stadium on Tuesday.

Chasing a modest target of 118, the hosts reached 119-2 in just 13.4 overs, thanks to a composed partnership between opener Tanzid Hasan and Parvez Hossain Emon after the early departure of both openers.

Tanzid struck a fluent 55 off 36 balls, hitting four fours and three sixes to celebrate his birthday, while Parvez compiled an unbeaten 33 off 26 deliveries to see Bangladesh home. The pair added 50 runs for the third wicket off just 33 balls, ensuring there would be no late drama following the tense finish in the second match.

Captain Litton Das fell for 7 attempting a pull shot against Harry Tector, soon after Saif Hassan – promoted to open – was dismissed for 19 after a bright start. But Bangladesh remained firmly in control throughout the chase.

Earlier, Ireland squandered a promising platform after racing to 50-1 inside the first five overs. Skipper Paul Stirling top-scored with 38 off 27 balls, but their innings collapsed under sustained pressure from Bangladesh’s bowlers and sharp fielding, folding for 117 with one ball remaining.

Left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman and leg-spinner Rishad Hossain each claimed three wickets, triggering the collapse as Ireland lost nine wickets for 67 runs across 14.4 overs.

Mohammad Saifuddin and Shoriful Islam chipped in with a wicket apiece, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz trapped Lorcan Tucker lbw for 1 soon after the powerplay.

Rishad bowled Curtis Campher with a ripping leg-break before removing Stirling with a googly. Mustafizur returned later to dismiss Mark Adair and Matthew Humphreys in the same over, moving past New Zealand’s Ish Sodhi into third place on the all-time T20I wicket-takers list with 158 scalps — behind only Tim Southee and Rashid Khan.

The fielding highlight came from Tanzid Hasan, who completed five catches — becoming the first outfield player from a Test-playing nation to achieve the feat in T20 internationals.
