Young opener Tim Tector says he is committed to attacking early even if it means risking his wicket, as Ireland prepare for a decisive third T20 International against Bangladesh.
The 22-year-old has announced himself brightly on this tour with quickfire knocks of 32 and 38 in the first two matches, helping Ireland set an aggressive tone at the top of the order.
Speaking ahead of Tuesday’s decider, Tector said his approach in the powerplay has been guided by both confidence and tactical clarity.
“It’s been quite clear what I’m looking to do in the powerplay, especially with only two men out,” he told reporters. “There’s a lot of analysis that goes into bowlers and what they do early on. I like to move laterally, keep my body moving and access different pockets of the ground.”
He said the intent is not blind slogging but adapting ball by ball while staying proactive, especially against Bangladesh’s spinners.
“It’s not about premeditating every delivery,” he explained. “Each ball depends on what I’m looking to do. It’s just about being confident and clear.”
Tector was also asked about his brisk starts that ended short of a half-century on both occasions — a pattern seen since the T20 World Cup.
He insisted that aggression remains non-negotiable.
“Powerplay batting is about taking the game to the bowlers,” he said. “I know I’ve only got a couple of starts, but I’d rather get out trying to keep momentum going outside the powerplay than just bat for a score. That’s the way this team wants to play.”
“Obviously it’s disappointing to get out after starts,” he added. “But if it’s taking the aggressive option, I don’t mind doing it,” he concluded.
