Fakirerpool YMC earned their first victory of the Bangladesh Football League (BFL) season with an impressive 2–0 win over Mohammedan, handing the defending champions a bitter setback just days after their emotional Dhaka Derby triumph over Abahani.
Mohammedan, who picked up their first win of the campaign last Monday, failed to carry that momentum into their fourth-round fixture in Manikganj. Fakirerpool looked sharper and more structured from the outset, with Ivorian forward Ben Ouattara Ibrahim constantly unsettling the Mohammedan defence through pace, strength and direct runs.
Mohammedan survived several scares in the first half, but their composure evaporated immediately after the break. In the 47th minute, a chaotic defensive lapse involving three defenders and the goalkeeper gifted Fakirerpool the opener. Irfan Hossain reacted quickest and placed the ball into the net to make it 1–0.
The champions never fully recovered. Fakirerpool continued to press with confidence, and their persistence paid off again in the 61st minute. A free-kick into the box caused confusion, allowing Ibrahim to rifle in a diagonal shot from inside the area to double the lead. Mohammedan created chances late on but lacked precision, ultimately failing to find a way back.
The defeat drops Mohammedan into the relegation zone with four points from four matches, while Fakirerpool climb off the bottom to also reach four points, sitting between Abahani and Mohammedan.
In Gazipur, the day’s other match ended in a 0–0 draw between PWD and Brothers Union, moving Brothers to seven points and PWD to five.
