The upcoming Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season will feature six franchises, with the addition of a new team from Noakhali owned by Desh Travels, a BPL governing council official confirmed on Monday.
“Desh Travels have also been selected to
participate. They will own the Noakhali team,” the official told Daily Sun.
Earlier, the BPL Governing Council had
announced that five franchises would compete in the upcoming season. After
completing a thorough registration and evaluation process, five teams had been
approved: Dhaka Capitals, Chattogram Royals, Rajshahi Warriors, Rangpur Riders,
and Sylhet Titans.
BPL Governing Council member secretary
Iftekhar Rahman Mithu earlier revealed that five franchises were finalised from
eleven interested parties. The selections were based on financial strength and
organizational integrity. The ownership groups for these franchises are Toggy
Sports (Rangpur), Triangle Services (Chattogram), Champion Sports (Dhaka),
Nabil Group (Rajshahi), and Cricket with Sami (Sylhet).
Meanwhile, a media briefing of the BPL
Governing Council will be held at the Press Conference Area of the Sher-e-Bangla
National Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
