Opening batter Habibur Rahman Sohan has smashed the fastest T20 century ever scored by a Bangladeshi batter, as the 26-year-old achieved the milestone during Bangladesh ‘A’ team's opening match of the Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament against Hong Kong, China in Doha, where he hammered an unbeaten 100 off just 35 balls.
Sohan’s innings not only delivered Bangladesh ‘A’ a flying start to the tournament but also eclipsed two national records in one stroke. He stormed to a half-century in just 14 balls, breaking Shuvagata Hom’s previous 16-ball record.
Minutes later, he surged to his maiden T20 hundred off 35 balls, shattering Parvez Hossain Emon’s 42-ball record set during the 2020 Bangabandhu T20 Cup.
His assault began immediately, when he launched Ateeq Iqbal for three sixes in the opening over. The momentum continued with three fours and a six in the next over, followed by two more sixes in the third that took him to his record-breaking 14-ball fifty. Sohan then tore into Ehsan Khan for two fours and two sixes, and punished Atik for a four and back-to-back sixes to race to 88 off just 24 balls. By the end of the powerplay, Bangladesh ‘A’ were cruising at 107 for 0.
Once the field spread, Sohan shifted to controlled aggression, adding only one further boundary but rotating the strike smartly to reach the landmark. He finished unbeaten on 100 off 35 deliveries, striking 8 fours and 10 sixes—now the joint second-highest number of sixes in a T20 innings by a Bangladeshi batter. The national record of 11 sixes is held jointly by Tamim Iqbal and Najmul Hossain Shanto.
The innings also cements Sohan’s place as Bangladesh’s fastest century-maker across formats. He already held the fastest List A hundred by a Bangladeshi—an explosive 49-ball ton that eclipsed Mashrafe Bin Mortaza’s famous 50-ball effort.
