The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has expanded its nationwide grassroots coach education initiative to the Chattogram Division, marking the second phase of a major effort to strengthen the country’s cricketing foundation. The three-day Level A Coaching Course for academy coaches began today at the Bir Shrestho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium in Chattogram.
The program, first launched in Sylhet, is part of a long-term plan by the BCB’s Game Development Department to build a more qualified, knowledgeable, and skilled pool of coaches working at the grassroots level. A total of 32 academy coaches from the Chattogram Division are participating in this intensive training.
According to the press release, The opening ceremony was inaugurated by BCB Director Mr. Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury, who emphasized the critical importance of quality coaching in producing the next generation of national players.
“Investing in grassroots development is essential,” he said, highlighting coaching as the backbone of sustainable cricketing progress.
The training is being conducted by a panel of highly experienced BCB senior coaches and trainers, including Senior Coaches Wahidul Gani and Golam Faruk Suru, Coach Emdad Emdu, Coach Nasir Uddin Faruk, and Trainer Sizar. Participants will undergo a structured curriculum designed to enhance their technical, tactical, and pedagogical skills.
Former national captain and BCB Game Development Head of Operations, Habibul Bashar, underscored the broader vision behind the initiative.
“To spread cricket, it is not enough to just play cricket; it is very important to be educated and read about cricket,” he said. “Those participating in this course are primarily involved at the grassroots level. If we can train and upgrade them properly, it will ultimately benefit Bangladesh cricket. This is a vital step in our commitment to developing coaches and creating a more robust cricketing ecosystem across all divisions.”
