Kalbela has emerged as a major force in Bangladesh's media landscape, making a remarkable impact in just two years. While its print edition is now among the most circulated dailies in the country, Kalbela’s real dominance lies in its online and digital platforms, where it has secured a leading position.

Although the paper was originally launched on 25 January 1991, it underwent a major transformation in 2022 following a change in ownership. On 16 October that year, it re-entered the market under a new slogan—“Beyond the Darkness”—with Santosh Sharma as editor and publisher.

Since then, Kalbela has earned a reputation for bold journalism, publishing a series of high-profile reports exposing alleged corruption involving ministers in the ruling establishment. Its fearless reporting helped rapidly boost its print circulation, placing it among the top three newspapers in Bangladesh within a year.

However, Kalbela's digital success has far outpaced its print growth. In February 2023, journalist Palash Mahmud joined as the online editor. Under his leadership, the platform has seen unprecedented growth—crossing two billion pageviews and video views within just two years.

In March 2025 alone, Kalbela’s online content registered 2.15 billion views—a record for any Bangladeshi news outlet in a single month. The following month, it logged 1.75 billion views.

A leadership change followed in 2025, with businessman Miah Nuruddin Ahmed Apu becoming chairman of Kalbela Media Ltd. and the newspaper’s publisher. However, the editorial leadership remained unchanged, with Santosh Sharma as print editor and Palash Mahmud leading the digital division.

Kalbela covers a wide range of beats—national and international affairs, politics, technology, regional news, sports, entertainment, and education. Its reporting is known for depth, analysis, and investigative rigour, offering readers not just information but perspective.

In the digital space, Kalbela has achieved milestones no other Bangladeshi media outlet has matched in such a short span. It has received five Silver Play Buttons and one Gold Play Button from YouTube for its performance across various channels.

In late 2023, Kalbela expanded into drama production under its Kalbela Entertainment brand. The venture has quickly found success, amassing more than 2.2 million followers on Facebook and over 600,000 subscribers on YouTube. Across all its Facebook pages, Kalbela now nears 10 million followers, while its YouTube subscriber base is close to 5 million.

The print edition publishes around 100 news items daily, while the website (www.kalbela.com) carries over 200 news stories. Its multimedia team uploads roughly 80 videos every day, making Kalbela one of the most prolific digital newsrooms in the country.
