Bangladesh’s cosmetics and skincare market is undergoing a quiet revolution -- one driven by innovation, authenticity and a bold vision for global recognition. At the heart of this transformation stands Remark HB Limited, the country’s leading cosmetics manufacturer to produce global-brand colour cosmetics locally and secure a foothold in the booming halal-certified beauty segment.
In Gazaria, Munshiganj, Remark HB has established a state-of-the-art factory and research centre -- the first of its kind in the country. Equipped with ISO, Halal, and cGMP certifications, the facility ensures that every product meets international quality and safety benchmarks.
This technological leap marks a major shift for Bangladesh’s beauty sector, which has long depended on imports. By manufacturing globally recognised colour cosmetics domestically, Remark is not only addressing the growing local demand but also building capacity for export.
“Our goal is to make Bangladesh known not just as a consumer market, but as a global producer of world-class beauty and skincare products,” Mohammad Marufur Rahman, Chief Business Officer of Remark HB Limited, told Daily Sun in an interview.
Halal Cosmetics: A Gateway to the Global Market
The rise of halal-certified products represents one of the fastest-growing trends in the global beauty industry, valued at over USD 100 billion. For a Muslim-majority country like Bangladesh, this presents a golden opportunity.
Remark HB’s halal-certified production has already opened doors to export markets in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Malaysia, Thailand and Azerbaijan. The company recently drew attention at MIHAS 2025 -- the world’s largest halal trade exhibition in Malaysia -- where it received large-scale export orders. Earlier, its participation in Dubai Derma earned it orders worth USD 2 million, a milestone for Bangladesh’s colour cosmetics industry.
With future plans to enter Europe and North America, Remark HB is steadily positioning Bangladesh as a credible player in the global halal cosmetics supply chain.

Rising Demand at Home
The domestic beauty and skincare market is expanding at an annual rate of nearly 18%, driven by rising awareness among both men and women. Currently valued at around USD 1.7 billion, the market remains heavily import-dependent -- a gap Remark aims to close.
“Over 40 million consumers in Bangladesh use skincare and colour cosmetics, but most products are imported or illegally traded. Counterfeit items pose health risks and cause major revenue losses,” said Marufur Rahman.
“Remark is helping reduce this dependence while creating jobs, developing skills and restoring consumer confidence in locally made products,” he added.
To ensure authenticity and accessibility, Remark has built a strict quality control system and distributes its products through the country’s leading authentic retail chain, Herlan Store.
Export Success and Industry Recognition
Remark’s growing brand portfolio -- including Lily, Orix, Sunbit, Aknol, Tylux, Herlan and Nior -- has already gained traction in the FMCG market. These brands appeal to younger consumers through modern design, safe ingredients and competitive pricing.
The company’s commitment to sustainable and ethical manufacturing earned it the “Green Factory Award 2025” from the Ministry of Labour and Employment, recognising its environment-friendly operations and worker safety practices.
Challenges on the Road Ahead
Despite its success, the local cosmetics industry faces regulatory and structural challenges. High import duties on raw materials, supplementary duties on locally produced goods, and loopholes that allow under-invoicing of imported products have created an uneven playing field.
Industry insiders say policy reforms could be transformative. Just as government support helped Bangladesh’s RMG and electronics sectors become global players, similar incentives for cosmetics and toiletries could unlock a new wave of export diversification.
“If provided with proper policy support, the local cosmetics industry can emerge as Bangladesh’s next major export frontier — after garments and electronics,” Rahman noted.
With innovation at its core and a vision beyond borders, Remark HB has redefined what’s possible in Bangladesh’s personal care sector. Its halal-certified, export-ready and research-driven approach is not only building consumer trust but also reshaping perceptions of “Made in Bangladesh” beauty products.
From Gazaria to Dubai and soon, perhaps to Europe and America, Remark HB is setting a new standard for the country’s cosmetics industry, transforming Bangladesh from an importer into a global manufacturer of quality beauty and skincare products.
