Local Teacher, Global Treasure: The Story of Quazi Rafquat

Quazi Rafquat Hossain

A A

For more than two decades, Quazi Rafquat Hossain has been a familiar and respected name among IGCSE and International A Level students. Known to thousands simply as “Rafquat Sir,” he built his reputation the traditional way, through relentless dedication in the classroom, an exceptional understanding of Physics, and a genuine commitment to his students’ success. Long before the internet amplified his reach, he was already considered one of the most trusted educators in Bangladesh.

Beyond teaching, Quazi Rafquat Hossain serves as the chairman of British Columbia School, an institution founded by the former President of Bangladesh. Under his leadership, the school has expanded its focus on international education while introducing holistic development programs for kindergarten students and a unique “PG to PG” support system, guiding learners from playgroup to postgraduate level. Yet despite these responsibilities and achievements, it was an almost casual decision in 2024 that transformed Rafquat Sir from a respected local educator into a global academic phenomenon.

Every examination season, students would flood him with one familiar request: “Sir, please give us suggestions.” For years, he responded by typing last minute exam advice and revision notes into Messenger groups for each batch. It had become a routine ritual before examinations. But in 2024, after regular classes had ended, he decided to do something different. Instead of writing the suggestions in text form, he recorded a video.

What happened next surprised even him.

The video series exploded in popularity, accumulating more than 100,000 views from students across the globe. What made the response even more remarkable was the audience distribution. According to YouTube analytics, only 23 percent of viewers were from Bangladesh. The remaining audience came from countries all around the world, proving that meaningful education can transcend borders, languages, and geography.

Soon, it became clear that this was not a one time success story. His YouTube channel, despite being mostly private and designed primarily for his own students, has now accumulated more than 1.2 million total views. Remarkably, the overwhelming majority of that traffic comes from overseas audiences, turning what began as a small classroom initiative into an international learning platform.

Today, before every examination session, Rafquat Sir follows a now familiar routine. Sitting with his laptop, writing tablet, and microphone, he spends countless hours carefully preparing revision content specifically tailored for O Level and A Level students. Every explanation, prediction, and problem solving session is curated with the precision of someone who deeply understands both the syllabus and the anxiety students face before exams.

For him, this is more than content creation. It is service.

Rafquat Sir strongly believes that quality education is not a privilege reserved for a fortunate few, but a basic human right that should be accessible to everyone. He describes his work as his way of giving back to the community, ensuring that students anywhere in the world can access guidance that may otherwise be beyond their reach.

The appreciation for his efforts is impossible to ignore. The comment sections beneath his videos are filled with heartfelt messages from students worldwide. Many openly admit that they rely almost entirely on his videos for their preparation. For students overwhelmed by complex topics and expensive tutoring, his content has become a source of confidence, clarity, and reassurance during some of the most stressful periods of their academic lives.

Alongside his free educational videos, Rafquat Sir also operates an online platform where he offers some of his most carefully curated academic materials. The platform, supported largely through his YouTube audience, has already generated thousands of dollars in sales. But perhaps the most unexpected discovery came from the feedback forms submitted by customers.

He initially assumed that most buyers would be students.

Instead, he discovered that a large portion of them were actually teachers from around the world, educators who were using his materials to teach their own students in their own classrooms.

It was a realization that deeply humbled him.

In an age where education is increasingly shaped by algorithms, trends, and commercialisation, Quazi Rafquat Hossain represents something refreshingly authentic: a teacher whose passion for teaching remains at the centre of everything he does. His classroom may have started in Bangladesh, but today it stretches across continents, screens, and time zones.

Some teachers prepare students for exams. Some prepare them for life. And a rare few quietly leave fingerprints on education far beyond their own classrooms.

Quazi Rafquat Hossain is one of those rare educators who has done all three, evolving from a local teacher into a global treasure.
