Liton Kar’s ‘She, the Universe: The Infinity Within Her’

Artist Liton Kar’s solo exhibition “She, the Universe: The Infinity Within Her” has opened at the Alliance Française de Dhaka. The exhibition was inaugurated on Friday at La Galerie in the capital's Dhanmondi.
Prof. Farida Zaman, Renowned Artist, Mahia Juned, Additional Managing Director and CFO, City Bank PLC, Mahrukh Mohiuddin, Managing Director, University Press Limited and Nishat Majumdar, Mountaineer attended the opening ceremony as the special guests.
In this exhibition, Liton Kar offers a poetic and introspective exploration of femininity, memory, and metaphysical presence through 25 large-scale oil paintings. He portrays women not just as figures but as elemental forces intertwined with nature, dreams, and ancestral memory.
His compositions merge surrealism with grounded intimacy, blurring the lines between reality and imagination. Liton's work reflects his deep engagement with storytelling, theater, and socio-cultural activism, filling each canvas with rich symbolism and narrative depth. His feminine subjects exude resilience, grace, and cosmic energy, acting as both personal icons and universal archetypes.
Born in 1974 in Chittagong, Liton Kar is a Bangladeshi visual artist with over 30 years of experience. He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Chittagong and has been active in socio-cultural and community-focused art. Influenced by theater, heritage, and storytelling, he founded the creative agencies “Shade and Italic” in 1996, which work in film, design, and media.
A special highlight of the exhibition includes the screening of Liton Kar’s critically acclaimed short film “ICU (I See You)” at 5:30pm on both the opening and closing days. The short film “ICU” received international awards in 2022.
Additionally, the band Post Office Society will perform live today at 7:00pm as part of the exhibition’s cultural programme, combining music and visual art to create a multisensory experience for attendees.
The exhibition runs until 26 July open Monday to Friday from 3:00pm to 9:00pm, and is closed on Sunday.
