A Dhaka court on Sunday ordered the attachment of two plots belonging to former Narayanganj-4 lawmaker Shamim Osman, as well as the freezing of 29 bank accounts held by him.
Judge Zakir Hossain Galib of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court passed the order following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
In its plea, the anti-graft body stated that the accused was planning to withdraw money from the bank accounts, transfer the funds, and sell the properties while in hiding. In the interest of a proper investigation, the seizure of the properties and the freezing of the accounts are urgently required, the ACC added.
The same court also imposed a travel ban on the three children of former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury — Tanayem Zaman Chowdhury, Sadakat Zaman, and Zeba Zaman — in connection with a corruption case.An ACC plea in this regard stated that an investigation is ongoing into allegations of money laundering involving Saifuzzaman, his associates, and related institutions. Reliable sources have indicated that the individuals concerned may attempt to flee the country. Therefore, in the interest of a fair investigation, it is necessary to impose a travel ban on them.
